About the artist

"I'm in front of my Pc, trying to find an original way to present myself, I search the net to find a new way to say how much I love painting... all I find are sites showing methods to write an original CV (Write your curriculum on your T-shirt!...) and I imagine a teen-ager at a job interview wearing one of those stretchy T-shirts... the less experience she has, the more her belly button is visible!

All this prologue because I haven't got a clue of what I can say about myself...

I'm a very normal person who is unlucky enough to have reached that age when the loss of job becomes seriously demeaning and because I don't want to waste time crying about it, I decided to take back an old passion of mine: painting.

I haven't studied Art because the school in which I wished to go to had a very bad reputation ( drugs were said to abound.. and you know how so called artists are easily fooled...) and mum preferred a Linguistic school. I don't have a definite style, I paint with sponges (natural, kitchen sponges, even those make-up sponges are good for me!), my canvases are made out of an old grannies' sheet in thick cotton, white bed sheets, remnants of blue silk, etc; I don't have a painting technique, basically I love reproducing all that stimulates my sense of aesthetics, mainly animals.

I prefer cats: their shape is pure aesthetics, their movement is like a dance; painting them is a challenge; their eyes are piercing, from them you see the wildness of the world: the result is good if the tigers I just finished painting looks me in the eyes and sees me as her prey!

I don't paint only cats: lately I enjoy reproducing female figures taken from artistic photographs. My wish is to underline the beauty of a human body, the brightness of a movement and the colours of a visual sensation.

Alessandra Lugli is a self taught artist whom started painting only 2 years ago. Born in 1968 in Italy, she lived many years in exotic countries (Africa, Saudi Arabia, etc)

The typical feeling of nostalgia for these countries are a strong incentive for her works, and this is expressed with the use of many colors (more or less realistic, yet always very bright), and the subject is always a hymn to the fluidity of movement and aesthetics.

The used technique is acrylics on linen or cotton, yet there is a continuous evolution, a constant renewal of her art, testing new techniques (sponges, brushes, fingers) and new materials.
